There are enough websites that will tell you whether an album is an 8.4 or a film deserves four stars.

This isn’t one of them.

Chainsmoker Criticism publishes writing about film, music, literature, sex, relationships, feminism, politics, and the increasingly impossible task of being a modern messy woman.

Sometimes that means a review.

Sometimes it means an essay that begins with a breakup and somehow ends with The Piano Teacher. Sometimes it’s about internet culture, pornography, Catholic guilt, cigarettes, or why certain songs arrive at exactly the wrong moment.

Everything here starts from the same belief: art doesn’t exist separately from the lives we drag into it.

Neither do we.

Read accordingly.
